BTA Bank JSC, based in Almaty, Kazakhstan, currently does not possess a banking license. The bank's primary objective is to recover its assets as part of a legal action against its former owner. Several court rulings have established that the former owner is obligated to pay approximately $5 billion to BTA Bank.
As of today, assets valued at around $1 billion have been successfully returned, and these efforts are ongoing. It is a significant step toward reclaiming the funds owed.
